Imelda never asked how to send Miguel home, until she realized that Miguel was the reason she couldn’t cross over.
Why is this important?
I think it shows what really matters to Imelda. And it’s not her family. It’s being the bright center of the universe. I don’t think she hates her family, she just loves them more as worshippers.
Don’t worry, she does finally learns to stop taking her family for granted. At the end, as the sun rises, Hector and Imelda both send Miguel home, no conditions!
