Okay, if my understanding of this scene is correct… Bond is strapped to a metal table with a sci-fi laser inching towards his, um, tenders. (Get me my brown pants!) Realizing this isn’t an interrogation (No, Mr. Bond, I expect u to die!) and not having a gadget for the situation (Bond always has a gadget for the situation!), Bond decides that his only way out is to bluff. Bond tells Goldfinger that if he dies, 008 takes over, and he knows what Bond knows, including Operation Grandslam, and he’s not strapped to a laser table. All lies, of course, Bond doesn’t know anything about Goldfinger’s plans. All Bond is trying to do is convince Goldfinger that he wants him alive. I think Goldfinger ultimately decides to let him live out of a combination of ‘maybe he’s right and I don’t want to deal with whoever comes next’ and ‘eh, Bond is just begging for his life. I guess I’ll let him live a little longer.’ Although, I love the bit where Goldfinger stops to talk this over with his associates, while Bond is still panicking about the death laser. Hope that clears things up. Way to go, Taylor! 🏆🏆🏆 Because literally everyone else thought she was wonderful. What annoys me most is that Trudy bought her crap. Whenever Penny and LaCienega had a fight, LaCienega acted like the sweetest person on Earth, and rather than sticking up for her daughter, Trudy would tell Penny, ‘why can’t you be more like LaCienega?” Hey, that might make for a good episode. Trudy makes a wish that Penny could be more like LaCienega, thinking LaCienega is a perfect angel, and instead turns Penny into a total she-devil. Because they’re ugly. I think I can accept this message, but first Abuela has to have a major epiphany. As it stands, Abuela finds Mirabel just as the script demands that she apologize for her behavior. I don’t think that’s the message, but it does leave wondering how the magic works. Fair enough. 😐 How is this a flop?! I thoroughly enjoyed it. ⚡️ That was one of my favorite parts! First of all, it’s funny. Second, while very unlikely, it feels like it could work in this universe. And Alfonso Arau’s performance really sells the character. “Juanita Wilder! I’m your biggest fan!” View all replies >
