Diondra's daughter

I thought about thirty years had passed since the killings? The daughter looked like about seventeen to me.
*beep* movie allround.

They could have had Nicolas' Hoult's character be the son (who was given up for adoption in California then tracked down/unsealed his records, found mom, and started this whole process) and her be the daughter from a later visit in prison. He looked about 28. It would have made sense and would have added a layer to the story.

I completely agree that the actress looked too young - that bothered me and took me out of the movie.

HOWEVER, she has been completely sheltered and kept in isolation her entire life, so the "acting like a teenager" makes sense. Diondra went into hiding with her at her birth, and never really grew up either. I think of it as a kind of "Grey Gardens" scenario, but more severe in some ways - these two women, who learn how to act like "adults" by watching reality tv and sitcoms.

I think it would have been more effective if they'd used an actress who actually WAS 29 or so to play the daughter, then have her dress up in these too-young teenage types of clothes.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

The actress who played Crystal was the correct age. It was the decision of the director and wardrobe to dress her as a child and make her look younger. It makes sense. Why would she look and act like your normal 28yr old? What does a normal 28 yr old look and act like anyway? Crystal has a lot of psychological problems and has probably never been socialized. She has been kept hidden from the world. It totally makes sense that she would look and act more like a child than a grown woman.

I think Diondra lost Bens baby, and then got pregnant later...But told Ben shes his daughter so he would keep protecting her while in jail.
