Has anyone here actually watched it?

I haven't gotten to theaters yet to see it but I have yet to see any reviews from people who actually saw it. Anyone?

reply

Nope. I'm avoiding it as I'm focusing on 2024 releases in theaters right now.

reply

You do know it came out a week before Christmas and there's practically no good movies that come out in January.

reply

Yes I do know that and I'm only watching 2024 releases in theaters as of January 1 2024.

Last year, January had some fun flicks. They weren't great but they were entertaining.

reply

January is historically one of the best months for film releases.

reply

No it's not. It's well know for being the dumping ground for bad movies. For example every January you'll always see some lame PG-13 horror movie and this year it's "Night Swim."

reply

It depends on what you enjoy. If you want the summer blockbusters, you'll get those from May to September. If you want the overblown Oscar wannabes, that comes next, and runs through December. January is when studios put out the quirky and unusual films, the indie fare, and pretty much anything they don't know what to do with, which is why film fans tend to look forward to January as the single best month of the year for new films.

reply

yes i did.
pretty much a made-for-TV-type-rom-com

but worse. much, much worse.
the spider bit IS hilarious though, i'll give them that.

reply

I'm going to see it tonight.

Except for some funny physical comedy early in the movie, Sydney Sweeney is showing cleavage almost the whole movie, plus side boob in a shower scene. Made for TV rom-coms are all rated TV-G. This could never get that rating.

Theater attendance actually rose 11.4% in its third weekend (highly unusual), and held up well in its 4th weekend. The two leads are likable and there is enough of a story to hold interest. It has gotten good word-of-mouth from people who actually saw the movie. (Nearly all of the posts on this site are from people who have not seen it.)

reply

Well there were things I liked. Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney are very likeable and had great chemistry as the leads. I'm glad to see it get some good word of mouth and would love to see a revival of romantic comedies in theaters. I didn't liked the forced diversity and the setup of going to Sydney Australia for a lesbian wedding which felt gross.

reply

Yes, everything was bad. The meet cute, the setup of going to Australia, the background story. It was one of the worst I've seen in a long time.

reply

I made it 25 minutes into the movie before I had to bail. It was that bad.

reply

I wouldn't say that as I thought there was a lot to like about it. I hope the Romantic Comedy genre can begin to make a comeback.

reply

I saw it last night and it kept me entertained. I think Glenn Powell is good. Sydney Sweeney looks beautiful and she's more effective in the scenes where she's being sweet and actually likes the guy, as opposed to when she tries to be snarky/bitchy which doesn't work as well.

The cast of friends were mostly annoying and didn't add anything. Glenn Powell and his supposed best friend barely seem like they actually know each other when conversing.

reply

Just watched it. Had some funny moments. Was an above average rom-com. The wife enjoyed it and that's really ALL that matters.
