Yeah, even at the end when he is trying to save everyone, it is the wife who actually does the killing for him.

i thought he would have a moment end after it showed him chicken out killing a fox earlier

Yeah, I thought he would kill James McAvoy’s character at the end to prove that he can actually standup for his family.

I think that's just the way many male characters are written now. Someone mentioned this movie to me yesterday, told me the set up, and from knowing Scoot McNairy and Mackenzie Davis were a married couple that get terrorized, I could immediately (correctly it turns out) surmise that he's going to be a pathetic sad sack and she will be the resourceful effective one.
