Does every movie and tv series have to have a female warrior lead?
I mean, isn't it cliche at this point?

shareShogun doesn't have a female warrior lead. I don't remember reading about one in the book, or seeing one in the 1980 miniseries. So what did they do to F it up for this series?
shareThey didn't. Mariko is shown briefly fighting in a scene, and she had some training as a kid - but she's not a warrior per se.
An assassin in the show is a female, but she's killed.
It is quite accurately based on the original story from around 1980.
Mariko was a samourai in the story, very capable to defend herself.
It has nothing to do with the woke agenda in this extraordinary case.
But be assured it will be different in the supposedly announced S2+S3....
