Dont bother, watch the original

The entire show looks like it was made in a studio with cgi effects up the wazoo while the original actually built a small japanese town outside and had a more authentic look to it, it also did a much better job of explaining japanese culture than this and was far more encompassing. Also had better acting. and this is gonna sound strange but also had hotter girls I watched 3/4 of the first episode and I was done.

I'm loving this series. Might watch the original after.

I fully agree. In addition, after watching four episodes, am still waiting to see a sign of chemistry between the two leads. They hired the wrong director as clearly there is no interest in the emotional underpinnings of the characters. It's all about the explosions, gore and visuals.

The show not having been filmed in Japan with authentic shooting locations is indeed disappointing. I just cannot look past their fake British-Columbia version of "Japan" with CGI trees in the off to make it seem "more Asian looking".

However, the acting is great, at least on behalf of the Japanese actors, minus Anna Sawai, she neither looks the part nor does she act like her character should. Way too bossy and cold, original Mariko had this irresistible warmth that made her so captivating, Sawai... well... she does not. However, I liked her better in episode 4. Who knows, maybe she'll warm up...

Sanada and the absolute unit portraying Yabushige alone make the show worth watching. Both roles people thought might be impossible to honor considering the stellar original performances from 1980.

Let's also not forget that the original has its weaknesses too, as much as I love it.

Both versions have their pros and cons I mean to say. Both are very well worth a watch in my opinion.
There's no need to restrict yourself to just one of them...

Of course "watch the original ", no doubt but it does not mean, that you can not enjoy this one.

Cool story, bro.

Ah, excuse me. I mean… how very enlightening. If only the “critic industry” (entire film industry) had more oh-so-real voices like thee.

Well this site hears you (no duh). The unkool outside world, though, says…. LOL.

Stick to the oh-so-mighty-superior original that came from the before icky CGI and overall unkool modern time? No, I don’t think I will. I certainly have bothered like many and, again, cool story, bro.
