Christmas Spirit = Presents?

Now please don't get me wrong...I really enjoyed this movie. I thought Kurt Russell was super enjoyable as Santa. It was some great family fun. I was just a little sad that although the story was about sooo much more than material gifts, Santa's Christmas Spirit meter corresponded with gifts being delivered? I thought that he was just saying that for the kids, to get the son to believe, but he kept it up when he was in jail.

So honestly I'm just not sure what the point of it was. I'm overthinking. I did really like it.

Not much. So I was just a little saddened of the mixed messages. Give me one or the other...lol.
Like I said, I'm really over thinking it. I have been watching a lot of Christmas movies this year, but to keep my sanity, for every sappy movie, I am watching an episode of FBI Criminal Pursuit, or a horror movie.

Just to clarify, although Coke was the first to mass market this particular image of Santa, they took the description directly from 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and tried to stay true to that. They filled in the blank by making his suit red, because color was never mentioned,but other than that it is a direct match to the poem.

I can't say I really looked at it that way.

As I saw it, it was about Santa fulfilling his mission. Every kid looks forward to Santa's visit for Christmas, which of course does mean presents, and if Santa doesn't stop by and there's nothing under the tree then the result will inevitably be confusion and sadness.

Instead of some crass message of materialism, I see it as being more about the importance of Santa's role in the Christmas holiday. He's a vital part of things.

And hey, be realistic: When you were a child, if you woke up on Christmas morning and found nothing under the tree, would your Christmas spirit be particularly high?

I was one of those kids that stopped believing in Santa really young. It just didn't make sense to me, so yeah, if my parents hadn't left me gifts I would have been sad.

I guess maybe I just didn't get the whole spirit thing. Maybe I should watch it again. :)

I actually still remember when I stopped believing in Santa. I was 7 years old and had been thinking about it, and one night I walked into the kitchen where my dad was an expressed my reservations. He went ahead and confirmed my suspicions and that was that.

It was fun while it lasted.

As for the movie, like I said, I can understand how presents are linked to Christmas spirit because if I had woken up on Christmas day to an empty living room I would've been pretty bummed.

A lot of Christmas movies like to send this materialistic message. The Jewish people who run Hollywood want to destroy it.

SPOILERS!

I think you need to look into other elements of the movie that you missed. The idea of material presents was just for the kids.

But you also saw that Christmas for the older people was something deeper.

The police officer wanted for Christmas to be reconciled with his ex-wife.

The mother wanted her kids to get a long.

Finally, the son wanted to to see his father one last time.

The movie had a powerful message of love and family.

That's what I'm talking about. It had all those messages that were non materialistic and that was the true meaning of Christmas, but the spirit meter kept decreasing because Santa wasn't delivering presents??.....that was just where I was confused. Especially since no one should have looked under the tree yet.

Again, I feel like I was just over thinking some silly little plot point that really was only there to drive the urgency issue.

Maybe some of the gifts he almost didn’t deliver were helping people with the things I mentioned.

He helped the officer get in touch with his wife, for instance.

I'm actually going to stop thinking about it, because the more I do, the less it actually makes sense to me.

I really wasn't trying to nitpick. I really did enjoy the movie.

The presents didnt mean anything. He had the power to do everything the whole time.

He was there for people that needed. The kids, the cop, the hostess and even the criminals. He did spread the holiday cheer with out giving gifts. Well maybe the guitars were gifts. Everything was pretty much words and life lessons.

I like to think that Santa is able to be in more than one place. He may have been doing similar things to others around the globe.

Also, Santa knows every single person on Earth and he knows how to speak their languages. He knows everything they want and all about them. If they are doing poorly he wishes they weren't. He knows the cop and his girl want to get back together, which isn't material.

The story isn't about presents it's how good it feels to be cared about and to be an expert on your loved ones.
