I'm on season 5 again and wonder why on Earth Jamie would lie about Knox committing summary execution. What was the motive? Did he think he could be persuaded to quit the mission or redeem himself later?
shareI think Jamie just wants Knox to be totally convinced that Jamie is on the up and up when it comes to hunting Murtagh.

That's my view. Jamie was against Knox's mission, but if he exposed Knox to military punishment, Knox would have simply been replaced with someone that didn't know or trust Jamie. Since the mission to hunt down the Regulators was going to happen no matter who commanded the militia, Jamie was better off having it be Knox.
Maybe on the theory that two wrongs don't make a right.
sharei think that Jamie genuinely liked Knox, and covered for Knox because he knew that he could have done the same thing in similar situation.
