Ellen Burstyn

The role of the grandmother was played by Ellen Burstyn. I've come across several threads where she is just referred to as "the lady who played the grandmother," as if she's a complete unknown or something. How unfortunate that so many younger people apparently have no idea who Ellen Burstyn is.

I agree. She was a regular staple in the 70's at the movies.

one of the greatest actresses of all time. if you ever want to truly witness one of the best acting jobs ever then watch her in requiem for a dream. worst oscar snub of all time that year.

Who said anything about slicing you up,man? I just wanted to carve a little z on your forehead.

2001? That was the year Julia Roberts won Best Actress for "Erin Brockovich". I am of the mind that Roberts performance was adequate and nothing more. (This string of comments has made me very curious about "Requiem for a Dream".)

My "favorite" (?) Oscar snub was in 1979. THE performance of the year was given by Brad Davis in "Midnight Express". He wasn't even nominated.

My second "favorite" was in 1998: Helen Hunt's win for Best Actress for "As Good As It Gets" over Judy Dench in "Mrs. Brown".

These types of oddities keep my from taking awards programs seriously!

Personally I lover her acting and I know who Ellen Burstyn is. Alot of times I don't write out the actor/actresses names over and over because it's easier to just say grandmother. That's just me haha.

I'm STILL outraged by that. She's an excellent actress.

I would presume that many young people have seen The Exorcist, but may not have made the connection that it's the same woman. I think once that realization is made they'll start seeing her everywhere :)

She is a phenomenal actress, although this was definitely a mediocre film, Burstyn was still very good and will probably get a supporting Emmy nomination this year and it's good younger generations are seeing her act!!

Blanchett / Bullock / Exarchopoulos / Thompson / Winslet

She's a brilliant actress! I read her autobiography over Christmas and was so saddened to find out she'd had a really terrible childhood and some very rough years married to a man with mental illness.
I was at the Today Show when she, Heather Graham and Kiernan Shipka were on for FITA. When the interview was over, H&K were lead out of the studio but Ellen came over to the window and waved to those of us standing out in the cold. It made my day.

Ellen Burstyn was my only reason for seeing this film, and I was not disappointed in her performance – only in her amount of screen time.
