So bad it makes 3 feel like a good movie.

Not only it's not funny, but it was woke.

reply

What is woke about it?

reply

I liked it, it felt in the same spirit as the first 2 movies but up to date... Axel even made fun of how times have changed and the current generation several times.

7.5/10 for me

reply

Yeah, based on the trailers it doesn't look woke.

reply

It's not bad. I thought it was reasonably entertaining.

reply

I didn't get to the end yet because it's rather uninteresting and boring, but as per usual Netflix standards you have the strong independent female and barely a couple minutes in you basically have the white fan boy cop apologizing his whiteness to Axel Foley. Apparently you can't say "negro" if you are white anymore.

reply

"Negro" is an outdated term. I don't say it because I don't wanna sound like an Appalachian hillbilly.

I'll use jokingly maybe, like "Negro please".

Now I can't stand Eddie Murphy and I have no desire to see an old Eddie Murphy trying to revive this role.

That being said, I don't apologize for being white, I boast about it.

reply

You have to remember the context here. Eddie Murphy's character starts talking about a "negro league" and after he starts talking about it his white counterpart starts to say the same word talking about the same league until he remembers he is in a Netflix movie.

reply

Well you said there's a white fan boy cop apologizing his whiteness to Axel Foley. It sounds cringe.

reply

I think the idea was that Axel was messing with him, essentially satirizing how race discussions are conducted now.

reply

I think 3 works pretty good as a comedy. Just lacking in the action/drama department. I turned this off at 30 minutes. I'll get back to it after I adjust my expectations.

reply

It's very popular to casually dismiss the third one as bad but I thought it was fine. It was not as good as the second and far from as good as the original, but I still enjoyed it well enough. It was perfectly "average" with enough stand out moments to be worth the watch. Interestingly, I've always found it to be more re-watchable than the second film, which I found was a bit too similar to the first. I haven't seen fourth film yet, but I'd be perfectly okay if it was at least as good as the third one.

reply

I love 2 best. It's so extra 80s.

reply

I said they were a bit too similar but 2 was definitely a bit more "flashy 80s" compared to the original's more "raw/gritty 80s so I guess they are distinct in that respect.

reply

2's the best to me simply because it has Axel, Taggart, and Rosewood together for the majority of the time.

The plot was neither here or there, it was the chemistry between those three why it's the one in the franchise I re-visit the most.

reply

Is there a lot of swearing? I don't need a lot of swearing to enjoy a film but Axel not swearing isn't right.

reply

there's a lot of f bombs and more violence than the previous ones.

reply

I knew the far right was going to complain about wOkE. So predictable...

reply

Name a movie that came out after 2020 that isn't "woke"?

I'll wait.

reply

Agent Recon

reply

Snack Shack
Asphalt City
The Channel
The Killer
Nightmare Alley
Terrifier 2

reply

OK fine!

Name a GOOD movie that came out after 2020 that isn't woke.

I'll wait again.

reply

You didn't like The Killer?

reply

The Killer was decent yes. So we have 1. In the last 4 years. C'mon.

reply

I enjoyed all of these and don't consider any of them woke:

Top Gun: Maverick
Wrath of Man
Violent Night
Ambulance
Jesus Revolution
Operation Fortune: Rise de Guerre
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
The Covenant
Big George Foreman
Guardians of the Galaxy 3
Oppenheimer
Gran Turismo
Napoleon
Godzilla Minus One
Fly Me to the Moon
Horizon Part I

reply

Rofl! Never heard of any of those shows. Titles alone sound like VOD/STD.

reply

Bro. . .

The Killer is David Fincher's latest movie.

Nightmare Alley is a Guillermo del Toro film starring Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett.

needs a fan-edit
