What did the enhancement do for the mercs?

I felt that we never got a proper demonstration of how the bionic arms improved the mercs. It just looked cool, but functionally, it was kind of useless.

I think it showed us an army designed to adapt and retaliate. When damaged, they can be fixed. Like when we saw that merc who lost his arm as it was frozen off... he was killed shortly after, but as I saw it i just thought; no big deal. Plus the main dick got a grenade blown in his face and lost his arm (again) because of it... again, not that big a deal. So it showed us an army equipped to fight those who are better... if you know what I mean.

Plus, if it would give them improvements like, e.g. the likes of a Wolverine... then it would beg the question as to why play around with genes... when we have Cyberdyne Systems?

Would have been cool if there was some sort of backstory that these guys used to be in special forces until they had a limb blown off. Then say that the regular army wouldn't keep guys like that but that they could find work as private mercenaries.

It's sole purpose was to show that humankind had created their own enhancements after wiping out the mutants. The next step was growing their own mutants, like X-23 and X-24.

Unfortunately, the enhancements didn't really seem to contribute anything else to the story or action sequences, because the Reavers were just generic thugs.
