share that got to me too. Like yes there was a lot going on but they wasted so much time with jarring transition shots early in the film. Like do we need slow motion shots of polo horses running right after optimus meets quentessa. And with so much stuff that needs to be addressed why does it take like 6 minutes from the moment they walk up to anthony hopkins castle to the point where they actually start talking about the transformers history (with lengthy flash back sequences of warld war II) and the nights of the round. Its like the plot wanted to move forward but all this batntering kept getting in the way. Like I said it was jarring.
And what was with all the long drug out pre battle epic like monologs that took place before non battles. For example we get 5 minutes of king auther and merlin trying to ralley his tropes and a drunk stumbling merlin trying to solicit help from the transformers to help in the battle but when it comes down to it we get quick glimpses of battle for another minute before cutting to dead optimus in space. Like what kind of pacing is that? And thanks to all the slow mo nonsense not a lot of action is even seen in the battle. Complete with pretentious music overplayed in the back ground.
Interestingly the film even pokes fun of it self as the epic music played in the background during the drug out world war II flashes backs was actually cogwell playing the pipe organ. To which anthony hopkins tells him to shut up. Its like the film is trying to be funny but doesn't even realize its pointing out a real problem it has.
Another self deprecating joke is when a bunch of soldiers are sent hurling in the air in slow motion but its revelaed to be just a warp beam that slows down time for a limited volume of space. Cogswell breaks the 4th wall and declares "einstein would be tickled pink."
Agreed. So much wasted narrative opportunities for the sake of supposed fantastic action scenes.
