I was thinking Babadook the whole time. Just a representation of trauma and anguish. But it seems it was a real physical demon 2 families were trying to kill off. But I guess it’s up to interpretation. The imagined demon is more interesting to me. But it seems they leaned more toward not going full-on Babadook.
shareI don't know that it would be a demon, exactly. It's capabilities do seem supernatural, but it seems more like a secular horror... Possibly a sort of rare predator that exists secretly among us, as one might imagine vampires to do.
shareI suppose. It’s just interesting many new films - this, Cobweb, Barbarian are going full-on B-movie creature feature instead of leaning into mental creatures.

shareIt was much scarier when it was this mysterious dark creature in the shadows. They should have stuck with that.
shareit was real, but that last scene was designed to either leave room for a sequel, or keep moviegoers tense so they bring the movie's fear home with them
