How'd dude put his own spacewalking suit on??

Wouldn't that require outside help?

Suspension of disbelief? We can't go to Mars like that yet, but when we do perhaps our EV-suits will be easier to use? I mean, it's science FICTION after all.

reply

Douglas Quaid helped him put it on, after all he was at Mars first. https://youtu.be/ZIzFuycHn_0

I believe even current spacesuits are designed to be put on by their owner alone if necessary.

reply

It's like Iron Man's suit.

They actually show people getting into their space costume a couple of times: first step into the suit trousers, then crouch below and stand up into the torso with its built in helmet. Both units have a rigid ring which presumably positions and locks together.

Yea, I just listened to the director's commentary track and in it he said that they had to specially design a suit for the movie that the character could put on by himself (real life space suits apparently do require outside help to get into). So at least they considered that!
