Yet they’ve shown him showering at least twice during the film while on his own? Stellar stellar movie but how could they overlook this during editing?

I noticed that too but excused it as just Watney being a smart-aleck, even though it was literally true in the novel
It's clear Watney wasn't able to shower or properly groom himself during the 60 days or so before the rescue -- that's enough to build up a stench
So again, just seems like a Watney thing to do, to exaggerate for comic effect
