What people in their right minds go to Metacritic these days? Besides, MC are right about this shitty movie.

I really think that Metacritics scoring system is better than RT's, since they use positive, mixed and negative instead of just positive and negative, but they fucked up when they redesigned their site a while back.

The site used to be very clean and well-designed but now it looks terrible. Not sure why they did that.

Critics hold very little sway over general audiences these days. It seems films that have mediocre reviews have been faring much better at the box office than films with stellar reviews

reply

I'll see it anyway. It sounds like the sort of movie I'll enjoy whether it's bad or good!

And yes, such movies do exist. Was "Aquaman" a good movie? No! But everyone enjoyed it anyway.

reply

Uhhhh...not "everyone enjoyed Aquaman". If it wasn't for Amber Heard's hotness I wouldn't have made it through the whole thing.

reply

The narrative on Aquaman is it's "good, campy fun" like 1980's Flash Gordon or Thor Ragnarok. I know that's what James Wan was AIMING for but he didn't have the chops to pull it off. I didn't feel like hardly any of it lands the way it was intended and feels like it goes on forever.

reply

I enjoyed "Aquaman" as camp, as unintentional humor, as a visual spectacle, and as two hours of the hotter-than-hot Jason Momoa. I'm kind of undemanding when it comes to escapist fare starring really hot guys.

But not as undemanding as I am with Godzilla movies! They're *supposed* to be cheesy and ridiculous!

Who listens to critics? very few critics will ever give a monster movie a good review. Some boring crap Birdman or Moonlight they will. What you rather watch? people go to see these crappy monster movies knowing they will be crappy monster movies. Same as The Meg or Transformers or even POTC movies.
