So is there a point to this ending???? (

Spoilers obviously.........

The ending was completely unexpected and doesn't fit with the comic tone present in much of the movie. I didn't see a point in killing off EVERY single character. There was no reason why Jyn and Cassian couldn't have escaped at the end the way they escaped the desert planet.

So they complete their mission only to have the Death Star arrive and kill them?

luke, leia and han eventually have bad endings too. at least they got to live full lives though.

True. Kyle Katarn survived.

It had to end like that to fit in as "event's that took place just prior to Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope".
I have to admit that when I saw this in the cinema (just because it starred Felicity Jones) it took me a ridiculously long to make that connection - but then I've never been a big fan of Star Wars so maybe that's understandable?

No, I don't see this at all. Your whole premise is flawed. Sure, there are a few funny bits here and there, but they only serve to leaven and cast in sharper relief the often somber and tragic tone of the film.
