Suffered from the same problem as Napoleon

Why make a movie about Enzo Ferrari and then have the majority of it focused on his affair and marriage? The last third was the only solid part.

I agree, the first 5 minutes was a flashback of him when he was a racer, then next you see him as a grey haired old man. I am thinking-you skipped quite a bit there.

3/10

It was boring. It isn't entertaining to watch someone fucking up.

reply

It's the sad truth about a lot of these old-school directors like Scott or Mann. They've lost their touch.

reply

Mann really has. Hasn't directed anything noteworthy in a decade now. Public Enemies was OK at best. Blackhat is agreed to be one of his worst films. I don't have high hopes for Heat 2.

reply

Yeah, he's running on fumes at this point. And even Scott is returning to the well with Gladiator 2.

"Blackhat is agreed to be one of his worst films."

"Most people" probably agree that your mom is unimpressive and nothing special, yet she's most likely a wonderful and caring human being who raised you to become a decent person.
No offence meant, but when it comes to art what do you care about consensus or what other people agree on what the worst or best films are? Most people are film illiterate and wouldn't know a great film if it bit them in the arse...

'Blackhat' is arguably much better than 'Public Enemies' and certainly no worse than the 'The Keep'. At any rate it's leagues above most of what came out in 2015 (or that decade).

reply

Aw did I strike a nerve with you there?

reply

Naw, friend, not really. I reckon most people's opinion on art don't really factor into my appreciation of it. Or my general well being. But it's awfully kind of you to ask.
You seem like a decent person and I thought it a shame you'd let a good movie pass you by on account of the common folk's lack of aesthetic sensitivity is all.

reply

For the bulk of the film, it felt like the weight of the marriage was having a great impact upon the business side of Ferrari, and why it's such a mega brand today. And that everything might hang on a precious thread. But in the end, it turns out that was just a bunch of meaningless hooey. In terms of film, I think the true story got in the way of the "good story". It surprised me but I cared more about all that side story stuff than I did the racing. The complications of a great man deserving an heir vs love and romance and fidelity were all very intriguing. Life is complicated stuff. The racing was just bullshit.

reply

Right on the money.
If I make a movie called The Social Network, I do not want to see 2 hours of Zuckerberg arguing with his neighbours about the height of his fence.

This movie is a total miss, it should be named Wife vs Ferrari.
