Why was they all suddenly fine with going to the cops?

At the end all of them out of the blue was just fine with going and confessing everything to the cops. I find it weird not one of them was hesitant or trying to talk the others out of it. What the hell was that about? They all just got a message on their phones and they got up like zombies and went to the cops, did i miss something?

It really ruined the show for me. Terrible plot twist.

Yeah that ending just felt like "Whelp we're out of time guys lets just wrap this show up and end things" it just felt like they was forced at the last second to wrap the story up without any kind of build up or explanation. I mean after season 1 and all of this season with their lie, thats how it concludes? they all just get texted on their phones and go "Well ok lets go confess to the cops".

If they are ending the show, it would have been better to let us wonder what happened, rather than have them all gather at the police station. It was one of the worst endings or cliffhangers ever. It was almost as if we were supposed to feel like these woman are doing something amazing by confessing. Absolute crap. It does seem like the ending was tacked on months after the show ended production. It just didn't make sense.

Recall what Jane’s undercover boyfriend told her what Det. Quinlan had said: with five suspects, one of them was bound to crack, and would “get a sweet deal; the rest of them are fucked.” I believe The Monterey Five thought if they confessed en masse, they would all get preferential treatment. I wouldn’t be confident with that plan, but it’s the only explanation that makes anything at all like sense. It seems that they are all guilty of conspiracy and of impeding a police investigation. Bonnie can be charged with manslaughter, but I don’t know in what degree. What will happen to Ziggie? Celeste will be locked away from her boys, who would probably go to Mary Louise after all. I guess part of the group’s motivation was, in some cases, the lie was ruining their lives anyway (Bonnie and Maddie), or her life was already so destroyed that nothing else matters anymore (Renata). It seems that we need a Season 3.

Now I'm wondering if I missed something...do we know they were going to confess? I thought it ended with them all going somewhere together and we don't know exactly what their intention is?

reply

I mean they was all going into the police station, i don't know why else they would be going there besides confessing.

Is there going to be a Season 3? or is it over?

reply

Season 3 is a “maybe.” David E. Kelly intended the first season to be a one-off, then changed his mind. HBO suddenly switched from calling this season’s finale the Series Finale to dubbing it the Season Finale, pretty much making the change at the 11th hour. Audience reaction and ratings, plus money, will likely determine if we get another season. Seeing Renata doing time would be a sight to see!

It always seemed to me that everyone except Madeline wished they'd just told the truth at the beginning..rather than live with the lie between them and everyone else. And it certainly would've been the wisest choice since Bonnie was only trying to protect Celeste while she was being attacked. Who would've judged her harshly for that?
It was an accident and the consequences would've been minor. Too easy.
But once they committed to the lie they felt there was no way out and Madeline kept accentuating that point.
Now, however, there has been the lies and the cover up so either we can imagine or see what the outcome for all that will be. Much worse now.
But they might as well get it over with and deal with the consequences so they can all move on.
Like they should've done from the beginning.

Some of them were really struggling with not having done the right thing. This development was the natural outcome. Better that they should all go together than have one of them crack and make things really bad for the rest.

Don't you think that, keeping in mind Perry was beating the s*** out of Celeste, with the latter in clear danger herself, they would all get attenuating circumstances?

reply

Perry was probably going to kill Celeste. She was going to to divorce him and take his children from him. Bonnie saved her life. I think the legal concept of “a reasonabll prudent [person]” would conclude there were extenuating circumstances, like, say, saving the life of a mother who has 2 sons who will otherwise be raised by a bitch who has fostered a fucking rapist monster. But that’s just me.

We need a third season.
