I loved the show but that’s not necessarily bad news. I thought season 2 was fine, but largely unnecessary (despite the thrill of seeing Kidman and Streep go at it like feral cats). A third season would be overkill.

The two seasons can definitely stand on their own, but with characters like that, and an ensemble that worked together so well I am sure they could work up a great storyline if they were to continue it. No one is forcing them to. There should be plenty to say, but it did seem concluded, very gracefully too.

It could be an investigation into the crimes of the dead husband, kind of flip the genre altogether. The animus between Nathan and Ed ( was it? ) did not really play out, but then again Nathan's wife left him. What an odd couple from the start. All in all a really well done piece of drama.

Streep's character was really something. I think the reality of her character was probably the hardest to do realistically, which is why she was so oddball in it, but she made it work, and not in a psychotic way.

Wonder if it relates to Witherspoon's marriage breaking up... I think she was the moving force behind this show.

I'm going to have to watch this again. I was so engrossed I may have ran it by too quickly. I thought there was a bit of a continuation there with Ed/Adam Scott paying her back with the wife of the man she had the affair with. It was funny to see Scott play half the series with a big thick beard, and then shave it right off just to play Elvis.

I also enjoyed Laura Dern ... she gets a lot of good roles and does them well.
