When does it stop being good and just pretentious?

is it a fine line? what do u guys think?

He might have gone a little too far proving he's not going to play Hollywood's game but I find it entertaining enough to keep going, and some parts are brilliant. He's doing what Game of Thrones is doing except instead of manipulating plot points, he's playing with the structure and the formal qualities. You want Arya to fall into a hug with Sansa and Jon... but maybe she misses them by minutes... maybe she only sees one of them... You want Theon to save Yara, but he turns back to Reek but then maybe Arya avenges her family. Lynch knows we want to see Normal Dale reunite with Audrey, wants Bobby to fall into Shelly's arms... but instead he only teases brief moments of fan service, enough to keep you curious but never quite satisfied.
Ask yourself what you'd think if he didn't push the envelope of patience and just gave everyone what they wanted... would it be better? Or would it be another Peyton Place/Wisteria Lane without the irony?

Sentient, I see your point, and am happy you are enjoying this show, but, to continue with your comparison between GoT and this version of TP: to me, at least, the narrative progress on Game of Thrones is foreplay, while the narrative progress on Twin Peaks is a cocktease. I know that one will satisfy, if not always please me. I doubt that the other one will.

Good analogy there as well... but there's a fine line between cockteasing and tantric sex and edging.
Might not know until the show finishes.

I don't think it's pretentious, but I do have to admit that at times it's a bit tedious. We really don't need to just stare at the actors doing nothing for three minutes. If he would have eliminated some of that, the series could have been 15 or 16 episodes.

Or have the scene we just saw repeated?

That too.

In my opinion, the show was good until the atomic bomb episode. After that I don't see any significant story development. I'd say that it is running in circles if it wasn't so slow, so it's more like dragging in circles. Lynch doesn't give us much to debate about lately. Something significant better happen in the next episode.
