Why do they give David Yates to direct all those movies? He is the reason it sucks

Its just now that I saw that David Yates directed all 3 Fantastic Beasts movies. No wonder they suck.
I hated all his last 4 Harry Potter movies. His movies are joyless. There is no life and joy in them.

The first 4 Harry Potter movies were the best. You can rewatch them and have fun.

The Chris Columbus first 2 were so colorful and full of hope and fun.

Alfonso Cuarón made the best Harry Potter movie with "Prisoner of Azkaban". It was so mysterious and suspenseful.

Mike Newell did okey with number 4.

Then came David Yates and I never even rewatched those. Because they are so depressing and lifeless.

And then they gave him to do all Fantastic Beasts..... And now they dont understand what is happening and why they flop.... Its because people would watch Harry Potter movies with any director to see how it ends. They had to sit through David Yates directing it. With Harry Potter story ending - no one cares to watch those joyless movies that David Yates makes.

Yates has been hit or miss. I thought he did a great job with Order of the Phoenix, Deathly Hallows 1, FB1 and FB3. I didn't care for Half-Blood Prince and was outright disappointed with Deathly Hallows 2 and FB2.

i have always agreed with this. david yates is a mediocre director who makes boring films. i read somewhere that it had to do with the fact that he was just "so fun to work with" which usually translates to he's a blind yes-man who sucks the producer's dicks and is totally okay with zero creative freedom.

His movies made money.

Idk, he mostly sucks. I think maybe one of the Harry Potter movies he did was okay and one of the Fantastic Beasts movies was okay, and that's only because he got to do several of both - which is not a good sign imo.

I agree mostly. I do think Hallows (1 and 2) were great and the first FB film was good, but he has been a big miss with the others. The HP films always made a lot of money, though I always thought by the time he came on board they were too big to fail at the box office. They were successful so it made sense to give him the reigns for the FB series. Even then, the first FB film was mostly well received and a hit.

I do think that after Crimes of Grindelwald that a change was certainly in order.

I thought the exact same thing. when I saw his name at the end credits, I asked out loud, "he directed this one too?"

I completely agree with you about the first 4 movies (although I'd argue 3 because after that they stray so far from the source material.)

I'll rewatch all the harry potter films simply for annual marathons, but when I get to the fifth one there's always something lacking. I don't think they're completely terrible, there's things I like about 5-7, but a lot of problems.

reply

Its lifeless. That the problem. They are gray, depressing and there is no joy in them. Just misery.

1-4 were good. People like to rewatch them. Others were not. 1-2 were fun and colorful. 3 were mysterious. 4 was okeyish.
