Cap ends up with Peggy Carter? What about Sharon Carter? After all, she was on the run from the law because she helped Steve out during Civil War? Isn't he grateful?
Besides, she was his major love in the comics. There Peggy was just a fling...
Poor Sharon, on the run alone, because she risked everything to help the guy who ran off with her aunt.....
Not only that, but Peggy confirmed that she married a man that was saved by Captain America during WW2 in “Agent Carter”.
Cap literally wiped out her family line by interfering with history.
Yeah, a little out of character for Cap....
Here is another thought: does my his "reunion" in the past with Peggy detract from how he became friends with her again in the present. It is almost like Steve rejected who she was, her life in his reality, for some other he wanted
I suspect we'll get a full explanation in the commentary
I also suspect it'll be as simple (and plot-hole-ridden) as "Steve was her mysterious husband all along"
Personally, I'd prefer it if he lived out his life in an alternate reality, then returned when Peggy died. When Banner says he "blew past his exit" or something like that, he simply chose to appear on the bench, using the quantum realm's ability to exit whenever and wherever he wanted.
But again, that's a bit too complicated. Most likely we're meant to accept that he's been living in secret all along, and staying out of history's way.
This seems very un-Cap-like, but he's older and wiser at this point, knows how badly it can turn out if he interferes, and knows everything works out OK in the end.
That’s not how time travel works using quantum physics and string theory.
Cap traveled to an alternate reality that is very similar to his own. It still had a frozen cap in it, but Peggy is still in her present time. She hasn’t met her future husband yet. Granted, him showing up changes her destiny when compared to his own timeline, but for her it’s like it was meant to be. No one is erased.
Basically, he traveled from a universe where it is 2023, and ended up in a universe almost exactly like his, but in that universe the present time is 1945. It does not effect his timeline, nor does it change anything about hers.
After she dies, he uses the pym particle to travel back to his own universe/reality to say goodbye to his friends. After that he probably went back to that other universe and went back to his family
