What's your favorite medical drama?
Mine is the Casualty series (Casualty 1906/ 1907/ 1909). After that its House.
Edit: and M*A*S*H. Surprised I forgot that.

Er followed by grey's anatomy. I have tried so hard to like house (even bought the first two seasons on dvd) and just can't get into it.

This was a show that only got a season and a half, 18 episodes I think. It was set in San Francisco, and ran at a mile a minute just like Code Black. I loved the characters, and the show always got my heart racing, because you could always tell when something bad was about to happen.
For example, remember when everybody was deep frying turkeys for Thanksgiving, and some people were putting a frozen turkey into hot oil, which then exploded? Well, of course the Trauma Thanksgiving show starts off with some father with a happy family, and he's heated up a pot of oil, and by then you already know what's going to happen, but you still have to wait a few minutes for the drama to unfold.
Some of it was unrealistic, as usual, but enough of it was real to make it watchable.
Could be called Trauma? I remember the Thanksgiving episode and something about a plane crashing or some type of plane emergency. Jamey Sheridan (who was also in Chicago Hope), played Chief of Emergency Medicine and John Terry (Lost) played the Head of Surgery. It aired on NBC and set in San Francisco City Hospital. They had only 1 season, ordered 20 ep but only aired 18 but there was a gap between when the new Jay Leno show was cancelled and NBC ordered four more episodes to Trauma to fill in the absence of Jay. I'm not sure if this is the series you were thinking about because it deals more with paramedics, some of the ER residents and interns.
The only other Medical drama set in SF was Trapper John, which aired on CBS liked 100 years ago.
I liked the pacing of the show but not too many of the actors/Characters which appeared more like snarky and smartass then competent doctors and paramedics.
ER house was pretty good. This is up there. I can't get into greys
shareChicago Hope (although Code Black isn't far behind)
shareGrey's Anatomy with House as a close 2nd.
shareM*A*S*H, not strictly a drama but made me cry several times, then E.R, possibly House, BBC's Casualty has had it's moments and more recently Saving Hope. Only seen one Code Black but I like it.
