The finale

I knew I would be emotional because that's just who I am, but 😭😭😭😭😭

I'm really going to miss this show

reply

It was very well done. As was the entire show.

reply

Yeah the finale was a tearjerker. The aftershow was a nice touch.

I'm kinda torn on this one. Objectively I have to say it was a great finale, but it might have been a little too depressing for me. I know they've had more time together than they could ever imagine and they get to move on completely satisfied and content, but the fact that we're just there for the end when they've "had enough" is what's depressing to me.

I’m really going to his show too!
Season 4 was just so, so good and I think the finale episode is one of the best I’ve ever seen.
Yes it’s sad in places but every characters goodbye seems so fitting and beautiful.
I have watched this episode many times now and whilst I’ve cried every time, it still leaves me feeling satisfied and complete.
I think they nailed it as far as finale episodes go.

reply

I agree. I think it's one of the best finales of a network tv show that I've seen.

coincidently reached the finale episode last night.
Very emotional, that very last epilogue joke with Ted D fell a bit flat though , they should have cut that

reply

Yeah, it did fell flat for me too.
I just didn’t get it, it completely went over my head.

But then I googled it because it was bugging me.

I have found an article explaining it. Now when I understand it a bit better I like it somewhat. Still I think it fell flat if it had to be explained for me to get, maybe I’m just thick.

But yeah, there were some funny little details in the letter which I find funny but they were easily missed, I didn’t think of pausing the scene to read what it says (although I do that sometimes).

And I liked the explanation about what happened to Eleanor after she went through the gate and who was that random guy with mail. After just watching that scene first I thought she was reincarnated as him or something. πŸ˜‚

Here’s the article if anyone is interested:

Take it sleazy! ;)

reply

Well, it still falls flat for me, even after reading the article explaining it. I mean I understood the content of the scene, the article itself offered nothing substantially new, and... the conclusion was... meh.

I was not satisfied with the finale overall.

1. The characters basically ceased to exist. No. Just no. This cannot seriously be what the "meaning of life" is.

2. OK, for the sake of the narrative, let's accept they all want to... not exist. Did they forget about Michael? I mean, jeez, the whole point of sending him to Earth to be a human was for him to pass the new afterlife evaluation system, and the people he spent 4 seasons with don't even want to see this through? Don't want to meet him in the afterlife? Don't want to celebrate him making it into the Good Place (presumably)?

Pretty weak finale in my book...

reply

Yeah, that’s what I said. It’s a bit better after I read the article and understood what it was all about, but not by much. It still falls flat if I don’t get it.

About finale overall, I don’t know how to feel about it to be honest. Some parts I liked, some were a bit too depressing.

reply

It was an ok finale. It would have been better of both Eleanor and Chidi went through the arc together.

As for your second point, they were with him in the after life, albeit he wasn’t a human at the time, but they did interact with him in the afterlife. Besides one of the 4 stayed there so it’s not like they all abandoned him.

reply

*Very* bittersweet ending. It was well done, but yeah...it was rough watching at parts.
