Real reason Kathryn Newton and Justice Smith's characters got paired up together

There's some comments I've seen questioning this relationship and some even wonder if they'll continue or what was the point of it because only Justice Smith's character had any feelings while Kathryn's had none.

Well there is a reason, two actually, but one main reason this pairing happened. The first less important reason was because it helped move the plot along since Tim didn't even have a car nor knew much about the area while Lucy did know this stuff. However the most important and main reason these two got paired together wasn't because the creators thought anyone cared to see Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton together. Now Detective Pikachu and Psyduck were the real pairing they knew would get popular and be financially the smart one. Judging by the many people who loved Psyduck in this film and thought the two of them were hilarious together, looks like the pairing worked.
