Not Great Overall

I wasn't that impressed so far. Only a couple of funny lines, not as good as the original. The actor playing Sheldon's mom is kind of hot, she's Laurie Metcalf's real life daughter.

not great overall?? That was one of the best pilots I have seen in several years.

It established the relationships between the characters without much exposition.

"Not as good as the original" It is a different type of show than "The big Bang Theory" so it really should not be compared to it. It is not a laugh out loud sitcom like TBBT, it has more dramatic elements to it.

The kid playing Sheldon is spot on and the sister is great as well.

I didn't know that was Laurie Metcalf's daughter either. Makes so much sense. I was watching it last night and I couldn't believe how well they cast her. Her voice even sounds so much like her mothers.

I must say I LOVED the addition of Mr. Proton, (even though his face looked messed up to make him look younger or something) and the potato experiment.

I was also surprised, although I don't know why I would be that Jim Parsons was voicing over. Nice to see he is taking an interest and is a producer and stuff too. I hope it suceeds, at least for a little while.
TBBT is almost done isn't it? I haven't watched in awhile.

reply

Not just a producer. The idea of the show basically started with Parsons.

reply

Oh how cool that is, I didn't know that. Its a good idea. How is the show doing? i haven't checked it out since the first episode. Getting better? Worse?

Only two episodes so far; jury's still out.

Thanks for the link.
Were the episodes played far apart from one another? It seems as if I watched that so long ago.

reply

Yes, they did a premiere and then didn't show it again until 11/2, probably because of football. You can watch ep 2 here:

Didn't look so great in the promos. The kid seems annoying.

reply

At least his mom seems to be a lot more likable in the new show, in the original, she was an annoying religious fanatic.

reply

It's always hilarious in a pathetic way how even a fictional character mentioning religion makes many atheists whine like a little bitch.

reply

In spite of her slavish obsession with a silly fairy tale, I like Sheldon's mother anyway. I'm not going to "whine like a little bitch," but I can only laugh at your devotion to a creepy, cruel fictional character.

reply

I'm not religious in any way unless devotion to my favorite football teams counts. I just enjoy laughing at the way so many atheists are oblivious to how their crying and moaning is at least as annoying as the most rabid church goer. Leonard's mom is a vicious hateful shrew that tormented her kids and husband but the loving caring mother is the one the atheist has a problem with.

Oh wait. Is Leonard's mom the creepy cruel fictional character you were alluding to? Because I really dislike that character a lot. Most religious people never discuss their beliefs but every atheist I know can't shut up about their lack of any. That's probably why so many people think most atheists are annoying douchebags. No offense to you personally.

reply

That makes all the difference in how close they are as mother and son, but believe such extremely different things. I like that they made her like that.

Didn't know that. I thought she sounded like (or was trying to sound like) Metcalf. If one is familiar with Sheldon's mom from TBBT, it adds a dimension of believability.

reply

And Laurie Metcalf's daughter also played the part of a younger version of Laurie's character (Jackie) in 3 episodes of Roseanne in the 90s.

reply

It is VERY FUNNY. I wasn't expecting this to be so good.
