Zendaya as MJ

I have read several posts on here that some people have said that they don't like Zendaya as Mary Jane. Well, I just discovered that she is not playing Mary Jane. Her character's name is Michelle Jones.

I see the all too familiar party has begun. *yawns*

Well, I’ll say this about her version of MJ (and in a certain Magneto’s voice): perfection.

Absolutely love her in this role. Go Z!

She's great as MJ. She is funny, adorable, and delightful.

She is not Mary Jane. She's a much better character than the boring clicheed Mary Jane character.

Whatever her MJ expands to be, she's MCU's version of Mary Jane and to me she's just an awkward fit with spiderman... I know they're trying to say MJ need not be a dumb blonde kinda character but to make her a smarty pants social recluse who is not attractive (Until they make her look so right at the end with the make up) is just silly and unnecessary....

MJ in the comics is started out in the '60s as an airhead go-go girl type, but her character has evolved over time, as have nearly all the Spider-Man supporting cast. Compare Flash Thompson 1963 to Flash today. In recent years, MJ has been portrayed as more of a brilliant, business-minded sort. She ran a successful night club, and even had an executive position running Stark Enterprises. And she's pretty much always had a sarcastic sense of humor, and has long ago been revealed to be an introvert acting the part of an extrovert as a self-defense mechanism.

In short, nothing about the MCU character is in any way a departure from the character as presented in the comics.

Looks are of course subjective. If you don't think Zendaya is beautiful, well... I don't know what to say. It certainly seems most people do find her beautiful, which is more or less what qualifies as beauty in this world. You can't please everyone every time.

Never seen her in anything before SMFFH but I thought she was pretty good and I liked her slightly prickly character.
