Where do the monsters come from?

Not that it would affect the movie one way or the other, but I found myself wondering just what were those creatures and where they could have come from. The most obvious answer is that they were aliens, but it didn't look at all like they were the kind of being that would be capable of building interstellar ships (or building anything, for that matter). How can a blind creature develop any technology? They seemed to be just brainless killing machines.

My theory is that an invading intelligent alien species brought those beings to earth in order to exterminate the human population without having to fight a war themselves. Let a number of those things loose on the planet, and they will do all the killing for you.

I feel like this movie leaves a lot of questions, even though I enjoyed it. But I guess, they could do a prequel one day or leave us guessing.

A prequel? No. How about a sequel to that bold cliffhanger?

I think they came out of the earth. Those big arms look like they were meant for burrowing as well as hunting. Possibly the earths autoimmune response to overpopulation/climate change etc.

Just like Godzilla in that Japanese documentary.

There is a newspaper clipping in the fathers basement that mentions a meteor crash.

Kraczinski and Blunt were both on the Graham Norton show and he said the monsters are extra-terrestrials.

They came from my ass so they were man made.

According to a director they hitched a ride from an exploded planned and landed as a meteorite in Mexico. Yes, its that stupid.

Also they are not supposed to have any technology. This is supposedly all biological. But they are also supposed to be extremely smart. None of that was shown.
