That was SO ENJOYABLE!

As someone who grew up with Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Party, this is an even better Illumination film when compared to their other works (even the Despicable Me franchise). The world-building, the comedy, the action, the animation, the voice acting (Jack Black being the best actor in the whole movie), the music... a spicy cinematic spaghetti meatball. Ok, it's not in the same league as Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, but it's SO DAMN CLOSE! Sorry for being too excited.

Just saw it with my brother and our friends. It's a fun ride from beginning to end. I think you're bound to like it more if you know all the references. My brother and I played several Mario games growing up, so we understood a lot of the references and loved almost everything about it. (We're teenagers.)

reply

I'm a young adult and I understood the references to the games too.

It's also the first movie I've ever seen in theater where everybody clapped at the end. Granted, I didn't grow up seeing a lot of movies in the theater, but I still feel like that says something.

I also agree with what you said about Jack Black. He totally blew me away in this film. I didn't think he would be this good, but he was. He may have been my favorite part about it.

reply

It just goes to show that Jack Black is still one of the most talented actors. Love him or hate him, he can still blow you away. His voice work as Bowser is one my favorites since Po from Kung Fu Panda (a film that I saw when I was 14 years old).

reply

Kung Fu Panda was probably one of my earliest introductions to Jack Black! One of my favorite animated movies. Just shows that he is really talented with voice work. I thought his voice would be too distracting for Bowser, but it wasn't! I was pleasantly surprised. I almost wish I hadn't known it was him. I probably wouldn't have been able to tell.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is absolutelyb spectacular!

All several daily sessions are always filled. Everyone cheered and laughed out loud during the entire movie.

I'll never forget this cinematic experience that I and everyone else had.

reply

Ever had any other cinematic experiences like this one?

reply

You mean similar? Yes, with the Sonic movies.

reply

Yeah. Those Sonic movies were cinematic experiences for me. Along with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and 2, the 3D re-releases of Top Gun, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the re-releases of The Wizard of Oz and Ghostbusters, Kung Fu Panda 2, The Adventures of Tintin, etc.

reply

Some very good choices there.

reply

Thanks. What are your other similar choices?

reply

Most from your own list.

I remember seeing Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Pt. 2 with my family. Hard to believe that was over 10 years ago now.
