Is Becky in real life, too old now to be an effective surrogate?

Most reputable clinics will require surrogates who carry the baby to already have children, so they are usually a little older than egg donors. A 43 year old woman would statistically have 80% of her eggs be chromosomal abnormal, which would lead to miscarriage or babies with down's syndrome or the small percentage of babies with trisomy 13 or 18 that survive but are very sick and usually die by their first birthday. It would be a highly unreputable egg donor service that would not screen the donor for age, since IVF is really unlikely to work statistically for a 43 year old woman. A 43 year old woman could be a surrogate, but as an egg donor she would be a very poor choice. The families can test the embryos and only implant the ones that are chromosomal normal, but it is unlikely that a 43 year old woman would be successful with one round of IVF (not impossible, but unlikely) and the big money only comes from being able to produce a child that's born, so the clinics have some incentive to ensure this will happen.

Yes and on the show they said she was too old but she lied about her age. You’d think a background check or something would show she is lying.

I think Becky would be too old to be a surrogate. Also, unless I missed something, it appears that Becky does not have any children of her own. From everything I have read about surrogacy, only women who have already had a child are considered for surrogacy.

Of course it may be revealed in a later episode that Becky has a child out there somewhere. Or maybe she had one that died.

Yes, you are correct one of the requirements for surrogacy is usually you’ve had successful and healthy live births.

You don't know how making babies works, do you?

Stratego- LOL, thanks! Yes I do know all about making babies. My point was just that we only learned that Mark had passed away... We were never told if Becky and Mark had any children.

Maybe Becky had one just like her, i.e., she ran away at sixteen to marry a punk! And Becky lost contact with her.

Becky told them she was 33 years old.

Just an aside: Time magazine ran an article about chromosomal abnormal eggs and said doctors are changing their practice to use them anyway because healthy babies were born with them. The article explains why.
