Do kids today really don't know about Home Alone? I grew up with the movie and always found it an ultimate Christmas classic. But I never really thought about what the new generations think about it? It never occurred to me that they might not even know about it...

I just know when I was a kid I was familiar with many films made 50 years before I was born.
I find it hard to believe that children only watch current stuff today. Lol. As if. C'mon, there's so many recycled reruns.
There were much less sources of media to watch back then compared to today. There was nowhere near as much stuff available to watch back then than there is today. That's why we were familiar with old movies that were popular in their eras. Kids today have just too much new stuff to choose from. We didn't have that much to choose from back in the day.

Remember when you missed an episode of a TV show and you had to wait months and months until the rerun showed up during the summer to try to catch it? That was like your only other time to see it. Until years later when the show would go into syndication then you'd have a another chance of catching it then.
shareYes!!! lol it really was a different time before. Now it's so easy to catch up or to binge, I do think people don't necessarily pay attention to media like they used to. Which might also explain how there's more style than substance because the majority are just superficially viewing anyways.

Note to self: as a future parent, show my kids all the fun cartoons, tv shows, and movies I loved while growing up, so they can get all the silly pop culture references that nobody else does :D Make sure brother does the same with his kids.
shareIt comes down to parenting. We live in an age where people are no longer limited to watching what the television is showing us. There are almost too many options, and it’s easy for even the classics to get lost. It’s up to parents to show their kids the classics or they might miss them.
With that said you dad in the movie has obviously seen it, and gets its relevance in pop culture. So it is a little strange that his kids never heard of it.
