So what is this show actually about?

I saw the first episode. It seems like it touches on a lot of racial topics. Is this what this show is all about? Just blacks vs whites and what not? The whole vibe of the show seemed a little too "real" to me. I'm questioning if this is even going to be something enjoyable thats worth watching because I'm not gonna lie I was a little thrown off when they started bringing white supremacists and hangings in to the premiere along with a handful of other racial topics.

I should add that I have ZERO idea what Watchmen is about but heard some buzz about it so decided to check it out. So any insight about this show would be appreciated.

Imagine a TV show based on Tolkien's Lord of the Rings but instead of a new epic story it is set some 30 years after the War of the Ring in some village in Rohan where a bunch of local bullies make peasants' life unpleasant.

Is it worth watching past the 1st episode? Didn't really find the premiere all that gripping.

To me it's worth it just because it's Watchmen.

But you should watch at least through ep 3 to decide if you want to continue. Things change a lot every ep.

Greg … Rent the film Watchmen...or better yet, invest a few bucks and buy the graphic novel from Amazon. When the movie first came out, I, like you, had no idea what Watchmen was all about, so I bought the graphic novel, and read it twice before seeing movie. It is a very interesting take on superheroes. The movie was very divisive. Many fans did not like the changes that were made to the story, but on retrospect, they made sense in the context of the film. If you buy the novel or watch the film, the TV series should make more sense. I am wondering if the show is teasing us, or if we will indeed see the return of Dr. Manhattan.

I heard a longer review of the first 6 episodes, and it sounds like it doesn't focus on the racism, but it's more of a backdrop motivator.

Smoke monsters and mystery boxes... it's Lindelof, after all.
