Possible dig at The Next Karate Kid? (slight spoiler)

In the three Daniel movies, Miyagi is simply known as "Mr. Miyagi".

In The Next Karate Kid, it is revealed that his first name is Keisuke.

However, in the Cobra Kai series, his first name is shown to be Nariyoshi.

Normally, I'd chalk this up to an oversight. However, they've been so on-point with the lore on this show, I can't help but suspect this may be a dig at the bastard entry of the series....

If I remember correctly, in Karate Kid II, you see Miyagi's first name written in kanji(or some other japanese characters). When translated, it's Nariyoshi.

The Next Karate Kid and the cartoon did not go with this and actually gave him two different full names. This show went with the second movie's name.

Edit: Miyagi Yakuna in the cartoon.

Interesting. Never heard that about KKII. If true, it is odd they went with the name the majority of people missed vs. the name clearly given in the 4th film. It's not a huge deal. It's just odd.

I noticed they are kind of picking and choosing what they want to do in areas where the lore is shady. For example, the tournament had new rules instituted in KKIII, but the tournament in Cobra Kai seems to have reverted to the rules in the first film.

The Next Karate Kid is mostly forgotten and I'm sure Hillary Swank won't be reprising her role anytime soon, so they might as well ignore it.

I've heard reports that they claim her character exists in the show's universe. I haven't heard them say it myself though, so....
