Why is the first movie so loved but not this one?

I haven’t seen It 2 yet. I did see the first one in theaters. People were going nuts about it and calling it one of the best films of the year. Some were upset that Get Out recieved Oscar attention and not It. A few people on this very board attacked me when I said it was just okay and not deserving of any Oscars.

So why isn’t this one as revered? What did this one do differently? It’s made by the same people, so it can’t be that different, right? Is the first movie still seen as some horror masterpiece by most people? Or did the hype wear off and people just weren’t as forgiving the second time?

the first one was about kids facing evil.
the second one is about adults acting like kids and fighting scary monsters. it makes no sense.

It's not as good. That simple. The acting isn't great and the humor, while some of it is still funny, doesn't work as well without the kids. Adult Henry was awful terrible.

The kids. It was always about the kids.

This and the original mini-series.

It was a bowl of popcorn horror fun until the "adults" went and wrecked it with their balloon popping needle and silly drama.

My big problem with it was that almost an hour of the near 3 hour runtime is filler. Theres a whole hour that does nothing to advanced the story. It's just a character goes somewhere, has flashback of their past followed by Pennywise jump scare. It had no reason to justify it's long runtime despite being based off such a long book.

The casting of the 2 leads. Amy Adams should've been the adult girl and audiences aren't fussed on McAvoy
