Why won't they make a film about Judy's early years ?

When she was young, full of talent and bursting with promise. Instead they always want to focus on the tragedy of her later years.

They could start on the project now and cast Millie Bobby Brown for the part of young Judy. MBB is 16 years old and she looks a little like Judy I think and she also started out young in showbiz. She sings too but not as well as Judy of course so they might be better off dubbing Judy's vocals in.

There are rarely movies made about the talent of performers and what was special about them that led to their success. Instead, it's almost always about drugs, alcohol, failed marriages, yellin' and screamin', and general misery and sorrow. It's a lot easier to do.

I would like to see a film based on the time around her early 'Andy Hardy' movies and leave out the barbiturate taking altogether. Just focus on things being golden and on the up.

But the barbiturates were a vital part of the way Mayer ruined her.

That would be more in the line of a documentary. And, plenty of those have been done. Just check YouTube.

I don't think a "movie" of her early years would fly. Anyone who knows (or cares) anything about Garland knows most of her life-story.

• Her mother was a "stage mother" and reportedly gave her medications to help her cope, even before MGM did.

• MGM over-worked her an treated her like a property, instead of a person.

• She was about 12 when her father died, and she felt that he was the only one in her corner.

• She developed low self-esteem, comparing herself to the other beauties at MGM. When she arrived there at the age of 13, she was at that "awkward age," and MGM wasn't sure what to do with her.

• The girl really had no childhood; on stage from the age of three.

• As an adult, she picked the wrong men and the wrong financial managers. She seems to have no judgement in such matters.

All in all, a lot of things conspired to damage her emotionally.

Andrea McCardle (original Annie on Broadway) played Judy in a 1978 TV movie about her early years called Rainbow.
