Why won't they make a film about Judy's early years ?

When she was young, full of talent and bursting with promise. Instead they always want to focus on the tragedy of her later years.

They could start on the project now and cast Millie Bobby Brown for the part of young Judy. MBB is 16 years old and she looks a little like Judy I think and she also started out young in showbiz. She sings too but not as well as Judy of course so they might be better off dubbing Judy's vocals in.

Why can't I hear the title of this movie without thinking of Larry David in Curb talking about the little girl's doll?

They kind of did. This 2-part mini-series was pretty good. Both Judys were great.

Well, the role is certainly hard to cast, but one other possible problem is that the stage mother is always going to be more interesting to watch than the child star she's pushing around. Try to film young Judy's story and you've got something like the musical ",Gypsy", where the title character barely registers because her pushy, dynamic, batshit crazy stage mother has the audience's full attention.

I mean teen kids are necessarily unformed and let the adults push them around, because they're just kids even if they're big movie stars, while the adults are wild and crazy and are trying to move mountains. Unsuccessfully, in Mama Gumm's case.

I would not mind seeing one that focused on her parents, or sisters. Maybe a movie a out their vaudeville days, that was when her mom started giving she and her sisters uppers.

They did make a film about Judy's early years. The mini-series "Me & My Shadows" covers both her early & adult years, & it's excellent. Tammy Blanchard & Judy Davis won Emmys for playing the young and adult Judy.
