When Peter was in the wooden house, in the altar of Paimon with Joan and the corpses, he looked confused and human. His expression was the same we have watched multiple times through the movie. Why is that? He was supposedly already possesed by Paimon.

I thought that too. Some even think he was dead already after the fall out the window.

It wasn't him anymore, it was Charlie. That's why he looked confused. She was "back", so to speak, and was processing it.
