Immune to thanos snap?

I think the Eternals and the Celestials were immune to the Thano's finger snap.

It's convenient, but sounds about right. Otherwise, odds are someone would've been blipped. IIRC, Eternals aren't even from this galaxy or universe? I remember in Loki...
Infinity Stones he found in the Time Variance Authority were all useless since the TVA exists outside of normal "existence"/continuum/whatever scif-fi thing was used to cover that.
Could be a similar situation here

Maybe it is because they weren't actually living as they were robots.

reply

It's not clear if they were robots, or created organic life forms.

But as they can be killed, it's my guess that they're alive.

reply

They were pretty clearly synthetic beings or as one of them said fancy robots. While I get Hollywood going a bit overboard with diversity, it doesn't make a lot of sense in this movie. The Eternals are according to Ajax millions of years old. So why would she speak with a Hispanic accent. Or why would not all of them speak with a Hispanic accent? Are we really supposed to believe that an ancient "god"like creature would care enough to create diverse Eternals? What is the advantage in having a deaf fancy robot? Now sexual orientation and all that can be explained by how long they lived on earth and such, but honestly if they sacrificed millions of worlds to birth new Celestials what makes Earth so great? Reality tv, the NFL, popcorn, come on Earth is probably not that special.

reply

As for the diversity, IMHO when the Celestials decided to make some humanoid Eternals, they knew nothing about humans, so they made a random assortment presumably copied from various parts of the planet. Obviously they knew nothing about humans, because they made one in the form of a child without realizing that children are expected to grow, and they also had no idea that some humans consider those with darker skin, smaller boobs, same-sex attraction, or sensory variations to be inferior or defective.

But back to the original question, we really don't know what the Eternals are, physically, but they are probably not full of circuits and wires like the robots we've made, they're something more advanced, perhaps even something that could be considered physically alive. We don't know, we saw a couple die, but we never saw one sliced to bits so we could see what was inside.

But at the time the Eternals came to Earth some 7000 years ago those regional people would have looked very different than what they are now. Maybe if they introduced they looking more similar or even robotic to begin with and then diversify them later. They chose to change their appearance. Still doesn't explain the deaf Eternal.

reply

How different? Sure, they didn't have bleached blondes with fake tits back then, but I think all all our modern racial phenotypes probably existed. For instance, people say "The Chinese civilization is 4,000 years old", because some form of written records go back that far, so it's not a stretch to assume there were proto-Chinese tribes 7,000 years ago.

And there were probably dark-skinned people in Africa (Egyptian paintings show dark-skinned Africans from 4-5,000 years ago), and there were probably some light-skinned people in western Eurasia, brown-skinned people in the Americas, etc.

Face it, humans are diverse, and aliens who wanted to just make a group of random imitation humans are far more likely to produce a diverse group than a group of muscular white men and big-tittied women. Like I said, boob jobs didn't exist 7,000 years ago, so people with your tastes are out of luck.

reply

My tastes? You assume a lot. I am saying that they are robots, I didn't say anything about them being white males or big boobed women. And again what would be the advantage of having a deaf Eternal? Just that they probably would have all looked the same. Probably again more like robots then anything else. Unless you are assuming that the Celestials can see into the future the kinds of people who are living on Earth now. Then it could be argued that there was not enough diversity. Why only 10 Eternals for a planet (again assuming the future) that would have billions of people?

reply

Why ten eternals? Because the Celestials know how many monsters they left, and they know how many Eternals it will take to keep the monsters in line. That's what they're for.

And if you're getting all steamed up about a diverse team of imitation humans, then you just have a problem with diversity. Humans are diverse, that's just the way we are, and the way we'd look to an indifferent alien species.

reply

But there was no Scottish, Irish, or Spanish accents yet. They are a relatively modern aspect of those regions.

reply

Synthetics while the snap was about life forms.

Hmmm, but celestials ... don't know what those would count as ...
