and still doesn't explain how the infinity stones don't work at the TVA..

That was already explained when it was demonstrated that they don't. The Infinity Stones control six aspects of the universe. The TVA exists outside of time itself, i.e. outside of all universes.

Yeah, it was kinda anticlimactic, I like a season finale to have a sense of finality about at least some of the plotlines and as well as setting up season 2.

I didn't get that feeling from this episode at all, when the credits came up I was like "Wait, that was only half the episode!".

I agree that it was anticlimactic. IMO, episode 5 was the strongest episode and 6 was a let down.
