Why is The Mandalorian such an outlier?

I’d struggle to tell you plot-points from Fett and Obi. And I have a feeling Andor is heading down the same path: forgettable.

BUT - I’ve watched The Mandalorian 3 times now. The writing and the story seem to be so much more on point than the proceeding SW shows. Is there someone involved with The Mandalorian that’s not involved with these other shows? Why the hell is it light years beyond the others?

reply

That "someone" involved with the Mandalorian is Jon Favreau. He also directed "Iron Man" which set up the entire MCU.

reply

Yep. You can tell he's a super-fan of the early classic Star Wars by his writing and attention to detail.

Don't forget he directed The Jungle Book, which was the template followed by the late Disney live-action remakes.

He created the template followed by the Marvel movies, by the Disney live-action remakes and by the Star Wars series. He's probably the most underrated director right now.

Why do idiots who haven't watched Andor trash it? Holding at 8.2 on Imdb, critics raved about it.

reply

I *am* watching it…that’s what I meant by “I feel it’s heading down the same path”.

I can tell already that it’s hitting me like Fett…lifeless and forgettable.

reply

Jon Favreau. Star, writer, and producer of so many great things.

reply

The best thing that the Mandalorian has going for it is that you don't know what happens.

Unlike Kenobi and Andor, we don't know how Mando ends.

reply

Neah, that's not it. The writing quality is so different.

AND WTF did you know about Boba Fett????

reply

Andor show is pretty good despite the lead being a bit boring , The Mandalorian is overrated

reply

Andor started boring, but now I am more interested.

I definitely like it more than Fett.

I wasn't going to watch this but we had Disney+ for a month...

Anyway we watched about 10 minutes before everyone demanded we turn it off. Tron Legacy nightclub (complete with replica Daft Punk music) and the introduction of Wall-E were just about enough. The cheap looking officials on whatever planet we were supposed to be interested in sealed the deal.

A shame because although I wasn't sure about this I do like the lead and loved Narcos Mexico. Not to be for me though...
