Will it do good in Asian countries?

Whats the perception of this movie in Asian countries?

reply

Here in Singapore it’s a massive hit. Marvel movies usually are, of course, but this has the setting and Tony Leung as added incentives to get people into the cinema.

Even the local art house theatre is screening it - the last marvel movie they played was Thor Ragnarok, that one because of Taika Waititi.

Not in China. A lot of netizens in China are against this movie, because Shang Chi is the son of Mandarin in early Marvel comics. Mandarin in Marvel is from a popular racist novel in 1913, The Mystery of Dr. Fu Manchu. Even though the movie is adapted, Shang Chi is not the son of Mandarin, it is still considered racism.

I've heard it won't play in China, but in other Asian countries, I was told it did well. As it should, Tony Leung is a legend.
