My prayer for Shang-Chi

Dear LORD,
We have surfeited ourselves on these awful superhero movies. They have become the dominant presence in American films. They are rotting the minds of our youth and we are guilty of spreading this contagion throughout the world. For the sake of film art, we humbly pray that through your mighty hand, Shang-Chi and all these other garbage movies will begin to bomb at the box office bigtime.

For this mercy, we offer up our praise and thanks. Amen Hallelujah!

Oh, the irony..

reply

Oh what's the irony, smart boy? Is it something like Shang-Ti had done boffo box office in its opening weekend? Doesnt this prove my contention we're livimg in some kind of Orwellian dystopia when shit like that is considered cinematic art?

HUNDREDS OF FILMS ARE RELEASED EVERY YEAR...AT LEAST...MAYBE A DOZEN ARE SUPER HERO FLICKS...YOU NEED TO RELAX.

reply

Just dont watch them , about 4 of them are released per year , and there very entertaining movies.

reply

4 per year? Really? I had to get rid of Disney+ because of all that Marvel garbage constantly promoted. It takes some adept remote control skills to avoid $250-500 million marketing for these trash movies.

reply

It doesnt take skills at all, me just thinks your jealous of marvels unrivalled success, most of the movies and series are very entertaining and successful for that reason, no need to get so upset about it

reply

What do you take me for? Some DC fanboy seething with jealousy over Marvel movies? I don't give a shit about either one of them and couldn't even tell you which superhero belongs in which comic book universe.

reply

So why are you so upset? Theres plenty of films to enjoy, not sure why you are so concerned about CBMs when 100s of film of various genres are released on a regular basis, get your big boy pants on and go watch them, and stop writting stupid attention seeking posts, you aint that guy.

Marvel's unrivalled success ended with Endgame. Now they keep tripping over their own feet.

reply

How do you work that out? the tv shows were the most watch series at the time and critically acclaimed, 2 movies have been released , Black Widow did ok considering it went to streaming at the same time and were in the middle of a pandemic , Shang Chi has made 150 million in 4 days , not sure how you think they are tripping over there own feet ? they are starting to gain momentum again and i expect Eternals to do well when that's released, and lets not forget No way home, i anticipate that to be the 1st billion dollar movies since the pandemic began.

reply

Please, brother. Do yourself a favor and turn your back on this juvenalia. When we were young, we all enjoyed playing with toys, but at a certain point you abandon them for more mature interests. These comic book movies deserve to be left behind like all the other toys you outgrew when you hit puberty.

reply

So what films should we watch then ?

reply

Subscribe to The Criterion Channel. The best films ever made in the US and around the world. Superheroes are strictly forbidden.

reply

you can do both.
i subscribe to criterion and mubi.
and i went to shang chi.
you are not the movie police.

reply

Haha you pretentious one a be, your ok , now if you don't mind , go watch your tedious criterion movies, no wonder your a miserable SOB.

reply

There are so many grammatical mistakes in your post that it would be pointless to count them all. This is what comes from sullying your mind on superhero garbage.

reply

“Don’t trust anybody who’d rather be grammatically correct than have a good time.” – tom robbins

reply

Oh, I like to have a good time. That's why I don't watch superhero movies---because I know from past experience that I would be bored out of my gourd.

reply

Mic drop

reply

Pick that up, ya litterbug!

reply

Huh

reply

You can’t just leave microphones lying around on the ground. Someone might trip on it.

reply

something like this confounds me, really. why would you or i get rid of a service that has stuff we want on it because they also have stuff we don't want?

every time i go to any of the 6 or so streaming sites i use regularly, they have something splashed on their main page that they're promoting as their newest, greatest thing. and almost always, it's something i don't care about at all.

that's fine! i know that i'm not interested in that. it's their job to make things they think at least some people are gonna dig and put time into. not for me. it's on me to sort out what's there that i'm gonna dig at least a little bit.

reply

I had to get rid of Disney+ because of all that Marvel garbage constantly promoted.

Your trolling façade slipped a bit here. Hard to take your stance seriously when you revealed that you subscribe to disney+ of all things.

reply

I was nostalgic to watch films of my youth. Once I tired of that, there wasn't much else to watch that was in alignment with my taste. After noticing I hadn't even used the service to watch anything for about three months, I promptly got rid of it and subscribed to HBOMAX instead. They promote a lot of DC trash, but they also boast the esteemed HBO library and classic films through the TCM hub.

reply

letterboxd shows that there were 27950 short and feature films released in 2019.

there were probably 7 or 8 comic book films released that year.

it's not impossible to avoid things you don't want to watch.

capitalism is in foul odor among many today, but not with me. and one of the many great benefits of a relatively free market is that we all get to curate our own lives, filter out what doesn't interest us and focus on what we fancy.

& it's never been so easy to do that! there are all kinds of resources a click away that will help you find endless things that you will like.

so instead of taking your time to post on boards of films you don't care about, my humble advice is go off and appreciate the things you like, and don't spend your time lamenting the fact that other people like things you don't like.

it's a big world and we're all entitle to our preferences. if people like something you don't like, that doesn't hurt you even one little bit.

reply

I disagree

reply

Sure, but you're a troll, so that's your job.

reply

Not a troll but rather just a guy bemoaning the current state of moviemaking with the glut of all these juvenile fantasies you are expected in a more civilized age to give up when you turn twelve.

reply

Sing it, brother!

reply

Amen

God forbid we have fun, lighthearted movies that our younger population can enjoy. Stop being an old fogie.

reply

We have more than enough of things for children, but American cinema seems to have forgotten how to make films for adults.

reply

Oh please, there are plenty of films for the adult population. Let young people enjoy these movies. Why should you care so much? Adults enjoy these movies too, the playful imaginative ones at least.

What films do you watch?

reply

Look ma, im an edgelord because i watch movies for adults, GTFO you prick

reply

I seem to have touched a nerve. It's always fairly easy to get comic book fanboys riled up by besmirching their beloved superhero movies. Deep in their hearts, they know that I am right.

reply

Metatron, the only thing that you have done is make everyone in this thread think that you are dumb.

reply

I disagree. I won the argument and you comic book fanboys know it. Now throw away those trashy movies for children and go read a good translation of The Brothers Karamazov.

reply

[deleted]

Not at all , im just showing the board how much of an asshole you are , the OP you made just made you look like a complete douche , and im not a CBM fan , im a fan of all movies as long as there entertaining.

reply

I'm sorry, but I won. My argument was better. Accept your loss gracefully, I pray you.

reply

I think i won.

reply

won what? its a very popular film , its made 257 million already , you actually lost and the people on this board think you are a tool.
