Not bad comparing to black widow, box office performance is quite similar, but black widow was on streaming and this is not.

So it is not doing as well as black widow.

I think the fact that it took Shang Chi only 21 days to earn as much as Black Widow made in 66 days indicates that the film is doing better.

Yes, Black Widow streamed on Disney+ from the get-go, but it's unclear if that hurt the box office haul much, if at all. It's likely that everyone who intended to pay to see it in a theater did so from the start, and those who would not otherwise have seen it in a theater paid to watch at home. I suspect that the option to pay $30 (on top of the monthly Disney+ fee) to watch at home did not prevent too many people from paying $9 to see the film in theaters. Most who streamed were likely avoiding theaters due to covid concerns.

Domestic is strong for covid time, but the international is pretty bad. It will surpass BW domestically, but it looks like without a China release and it is running behind in almost every territory internationally compared to BW. It may end up in the high 300s maybe 400. So as an overall release, not good for a MCU movie and possibly have to rely on rental market to profit.

I do wonder how BW would have done, at least domestically, if it had not been kneecapped by the D+ same day release.

Tied with Black Widow after 3 weeks. Should be around $195M on Sunday.

The Numbers has downgraded its expected performance this weekend. However with the holiday weekend opening, no D+ same day release and running virtually unopposed for its first 4 weeks has helped it build a nice COVID domestic take. Its international still isn't good, so overall box office isnt great. It will be interesting to see how Disney looks at these results.

$196M domestic + $167M international on 4th weekend. Will break $200M Thursday. Competing with Venom 2 then.

Just hit $200m after 4 weeks. Bad Boys for Life was the last to do so 18 month ago.
