now at 250m worldwide (can it break 400m?)

it seems wild to talk about if it gonna total 400m when the previous one is literally DCs biggest grosser with 1.1b! (ok the likes of Superman78, Batman89 and TDK/TDKR probably did abit more when adjusted. edit: actually Superman did 1.3b when adjusted. Batman 1b. TDK 1.4b. TDKR 1.4b)

this with The Flash (just 270m ww) = DCEU most def OVER!

New Year is over in few hours and so those abnormal grosses that Christmas movies usually have. When they can make good money for like 10 days and it dies down around 3-4 January when people are over Holiday spirit and return to work.

This movies flopped and lost money to studio. And they very well knew they have flop on their hands. Thats why they dodnt released trailer up until 3 month before premiere and didn't spend that much on promotion.

What's funny is that I think they would make a lot more money if they would release it on schedule. It started filing in summer of 2021. And wrapped on January 2022. It had to come out March 2023. Then they moved it to December 2023. Due to re-shoots and probable Amber Heard - Depp scandal to die down.

None of that helped - it still flopped. But during Spring 2023 Superhero fatigue only started. It really could have made more money then now.

The delays absolutely scuttled this. It's simply unfortunate. I don't like this kind of thing, but they should have shelved this movie too and taken the check.

We're learning a lot about hype. Between this and the Marvels as failed sequels to billion dollar movies. Hype is what sells, not good movies. Disney has absolutely gut shot and buried alive their hype. Hype is brand. It's gonna take ten years for Gunn to build DC hype back up again. That moody lodestone of Nirvana's Batman ain't doing him any favors. I don't think the favor of that hype can be brought back. Not for this, not for Star Wars, not for the NFL. All these things were abused in ugly fashion and the illusion was broken. Corporations hating their customers has destroyed society.

Cap Marvel and Aquaman must have the biggest drops in box office history

Really good perspective. A+

"...That moody lodestone of Nirvana's Batman ain't doing him any favors."

Most people seemed to like The Batman better than the entire DCEU.

Now 370 beating Shazam and closing in on Black Adam (390m)

I feel like these numbers are about dialed in on the actual audience for these superhero flicks. Without the swell of an unbelievable hype tsunami like the height of the MCU had. Near 400 mill. They start balancing the budgets against that, they should be able to make money off this nonsense for years to come.

Yes, 412m

ends its theatrical run earning $433m

Did it make a profit at the box office? The budget of production is listed as $205,000,000, but I don't think that includes marketing costs.

reply

It didn't break even. Chalk this up to the heavily racist content present here.... The villain is a Black man named Black Manta, and the weapon that will destroy the world is a Black trident. Today's social justice-conscious viewers aren't going to stand for such atrocities anymore

Only 125M from local market. After that its China, were Warner will only see a small share. Not sure about Mexico on 2nd rank, but European market is mostly handled by local Warner, so the share here is more on US level, but with heavy exchange rate loses.
I estimate around 160-180m USD returned to Warner. Which could make it profitable later on, not like the other sinkholes by Warner or Disney last year.
