Loved It (Spoilers)

Could it have been been better? Yes. Execution a bit off in some areas. Could’ve used another 10-15 mins to flush out more of the backstory. Only thing I didn’t get was why the other chefs were OK with dying. That part of the plot needed more vetting. John Leguizamo also needed more lines. He makes me laugh. This movie had several funny moments. The dialogue was well delivered. I think that was the most enjoyable part of the film.

I'd presumed that the other chefs went along with dying because they worshiped Fiennes. I think it's intentional that the presentation of the Hawthorne restaurant feels a cult. And I don't mean just from Fiennes' obsession, the staff's robotic and deterrent manner...I think living conditions for the staff nicely set up that image. And look at the ending, a mass suicide! It's not explicit anywhere, but after I walked out, I felt like that's what they were going for.

Yeah, the dialogue was great. Great acting all around the ENTIRE ensemble. And random bit scenes were great too. I thought the sous chef crafted "The Mess" did great, the progression of his expression during the spiel was intense.

My issue with the movie is that I'm not entirely convinced there was a main point/message that they were going for. When they really could have. It seems more like a bunch of different ideas and themes just there for the dipping. Which is fine, I still very much enjoyed the film. Engaging from start to finish.

Read this long, but very well thought out and worded review someone named redbeardceltic left in IMDb, drawing parallels between this movie and the current state of America. I think he really has hit something here

His synopsis, esp. about Tyler is bang on.

I thought partway that Ralph Fiennes was, perhaps, Satan, in the way he was able to make people kill themselves and making the whole experience a vengeful Judgment Day of sorts. But yeah, cult is more like it.

Very entertaining flick, rated it an 8/10

It gets a little "english-paper" at times, but that was a terrific reading. The review embodies the sort of discussion I miss having back when I was younger; thank you for sharing. I especially loved the analysis of the older couple, and I like that it really has its own take on why these people were not fighting back. I hadn't seen much on that.

It's a cult... so there is no answering why. He's the Jim Jones of food. LOL!
