Where does the food comes from?

I missed explanation. If there was one.

All those people have to eat something. They even have cafe where people are served food and coffee. Does it just magically appear in the fridge too?

They did try to explain electricity thing and wasted few episodes on that. Only to declare at the end that its just appears somehow and wires go deep and if you dig deep then house will collapse. And then everyone shrugged and stopped trying to find answers.

And cafe thing. Why is anyone even serving food and works there? In real word people work as waitresses, janitors and cooks for money. Here no one pays money. People just come and expect free food and service. And they can also be mean while doing it. Yet some characters willingly submit themselves as free servants. Why? Are they just bored or what?

Someone has to clean dishes. Someone has to cook. And nothing in return. While others just chill out all says.

I’ve wondered the same thing about the cafe. People sitting there having coffee like it’s an average day. I’d be spending every last second of my time trying to figure out how to get out of there. What on earth could you be possibly talking about at the cafe and to have people serving you? How strange.

reply

Yes. There is literally people who work at cafe for no payment and just serve other people.

In some survival shows or movies people get all different tasks to do - some hunt food, some do chores. But nothing like this is here. There is no "you do this and I do this". All other people just wonder around, being bored. And for some reason few "work" with nothing in return.

Well, there was deep concern about the harvest & food supply expressed, especially after the busload arrived. Though, yeah, you have to wonder about things like coffee, no way could they harvest & cure coffee beans there. I did like that the woman was curious enough about the source of electricity to dig out the wiring. But overall there's a lack of curiosity about the situation that seems unduly passive. I think the writers created a fascinating scenario that they themselves don't really know how to solve. Unlike many such series each season finale solves no problem or reveals nothing significant about their circumstances. Very frustrating.

That was just funny when they suddenly started being worry about food. It just screams: "Writers had to fill time so they remembered that people need to eat something and decided to make characters worry about it. Never to be heard about again after one episode".
There is no way all those people harvest any food. I initially thought that food just appears in one room every day like electricity.

It’s implied that all of them tried to figure out how to get out of there, particularly when they first got there. They give up hope eventually. We see how Jim and Jade, who arrive at the start of this show, bust their brains trying to get out . The other characters didn’t join them much because those other characters already tried everything they could, and they believed they was no escape

Donna, Boyd, and others assigned people work to do if they want to stay in the town or colony. So that’s why some people work as waitresses, janitors, cooks, laundry-women, and law enforcement etc. We see a scene where Boyd goes to Donna to tell her that Sara wants work to do. Donna then gives Sara clothes and tell her to stitch. So it’s implied that Donna and the others give people work to do to keep the place running
