Well it depends on everyone's taste honestly. There is no objective answer to your question. I, for example, love the new season. I know people who hate it and I can perfectly understand why...Lynch is not for everyone. Some episodes advance the plot more, that's true (SE7 was superb IMO). But that's not really what I meant. Many sceenes are shot in a way that they appear very slow - long static takes filled with someone watching a glass box or someone sweeping the floor. This is obviously great for building up tension and Lynch mastered this technique in his movies. However, it is quite unusual and uncomfortable for many people. I watched the "original" two series about 6 months ago, so the memory is still fresh. They were so interesting because they mixed a typical 90's crime and police series with mystery and Lynch's weird stuff. And this weird mixture, somehow, really worked great. This new series...it's just Lynch, pure and simple :-D I still like it because I love his movies but I can perfectly understand those who don't. It's very artsy, cryptic, dark and slooooooow (especially episodes like S03E06). Very much unlike the original episodes, which were built like a regular TV show of that time but had Lynch stuff in it. View all replies >
