So now we're arguing over semantics. Fine then, we will just agree to disagree on this point. Wrong. The movie Primer was based on Einstein's theories about possible time travel. I'd also like to point out that today's Science Fiction is tomorrow's Science Fact. Cell phones, laser tech, A.I., rocket ships... these were ALL pieces of Sci-Fi literature and imagination from writers like H.G. Wells, Ray Bradbury and others. Today, they are Science Fact. My argument also explains present Nebula (the one we know) staying alive after past Nebula (from another timeline) is killed. The original timeline has changed when they come back from getting the stones. That's my point. It may look like the original timeline but it's still different. Here's a decent article that also points out what I'm stating: https://www.refinery29.com/en-us/2019/04/230722/avengers-endgame-guide-time-travel-infinity-stones And here's a snippet of said article that makes my point: Meet the "time heist." It's a different kind of time travel scheme than most depicted in pop culture, much to Scott's disappointment. The Avengers won't re-write the past — that's impossible. Instead, they'll creating a different future. Yes it did. They altered the timeline by going back in time to get the stones after Thanos had destroyed the stones in the current timeline. See my comment to alienzen. Going back in time and taking the stones still would alter the timeline. You're missing my point. I know how they accomplished the feat of bringing everyone back with their own snap. The argument can be made that they're all still in the same timeline but that's not entirely accurate. Theoretical Physics makes the case that if you traveled back in time and altered something from your past (even the slightest thing), when you come back then many things would be different but not because your past alteration changed your current timeline but rather when you returned, it was in the new timeline that your actions created. So even though they traveled back to retrieve the stones to use, that action would have caused a new timeline, perhaps not noticeable to the senses but still a fact. Yeah I figured some of those estimates were a little too big but still, 300 million on opening weekend would be enough to set records. Anything else is just gravy. The question now is how fast Avengers: Endgame will get to 1 billion. Ironic that the cultural left would appropriate that word. Fitting since that shooter was likely a progressive. That seems a bit of an extreme reaction. Yeah, the guy was being a jerk but it's not worth spilling blood over. I had never heard that term used until the last two years, about the time Hollywood started feminizing movies (the last Ghostbusters for example) and it became a staple word for the cultural Left. Of course, it's a meaningless word as most people hear it and think that the user is referring to a Star Trek race. Oooooo - BURN!!!! Nice one alienzen and spot on! Let's not forget how utterly silly the term "incel" sounds. It's like they made it up in order to seem highbrowed in their insults. Instead they all end up sounding like the special kid in the corner who eats crayons. Yeah, I too will be done with the MCU after Avengers: Endgame. Phase IV will see the waning of fan interest, since they've chosen to foolishly go down this SJW path. Their financial funeral. From what I have read online, Captain Marvel wasn't supposed to be in either Infinity War or Endgame. The Russo's actually fought to keep her out of Infinity War and only agreed to an end credit scene to introduce her as a new protagonist in Endgame. The one pushing for Captain Marvel to be in both movies was Kevin Feige. The Russo's got their way with Infinity War but had to write her into Endgame. He's the boss but I still don't understand his logic and why Disney/Marvel is so determined to make this character the face of Phase IV. Guess we will find out going forward. I'm sure going to miss all the original Avengers though. What a great journey over the last decade. Bravo!!! I don't agree in part and I agree in part. Black Panther was a solid MCU movie, less of an origin story as BP had been introduced in Captain America: Civil War. The audience score for BP on RT is 79%. If you compare another MCU movie, like Captain America: First Avenger, the audience score for it on RT is 74%. So the part I don't agree with is that fans who didn't like Black Panther somehow voted it down. 79% is also a higher audience score than Ant Man and the Wasp (76%), Thor (76%), Iron Man 2 (71%) and slightly below Avengers: Age of Ultron (83%). So the "voting down" argument just isn't sound. BP's audience score is pretty much in the midrange, as are most MCU movies. Now to Captain Marvel. YES it was a divisive movie for the fan base, whether you went to see it or not. Captain Marvel was already not a well known character, except to the most committed comicbook readers/collectors and even there, she was not a liked character. The MCU could have made her a beloved character, had they cast someone like Emily Blunt, Katie Sackhoff or a similar actress who fans could have rallied around. Instead Marvel cast Brie Larson, who made no secret that she was going to use the role as a way to advance her agenda (she's even said so in interviews). This was not smart PR and did create a backlash from sizeable percentage of fans. So I'll agree that there was a backlash, although I won't call it a campaign. The damage was self inflicted. I'll share one last thought on this - from the most recent interviews in the run up to Avengers: Endgame, Larson seems to have toned down a lot of her rhetoric. I think perhaps some of the veteran cast reminded her on the tour, that these are comicbook movies and are supposed to be fun, not divisive. Hopefully she can improve Captain Marvel as a character in future movies and make her a character that unites fans, instead of dividing them. Not such a surprise when you figure that Captain Marvel has the MCU label to propel it. From everyone I know who went to see Captain Marvel, they said it's a mid-tier MCU movie. And let's be honest here, even a mediocre movie that's made by the MCU is going to gross at least 600-700 million. Just saying. Shazam! on the other hand, was put out by WB/DC Comics that only recently started having MCU type success (Wonder Woman and Aquaman) once they abandoned the dark, hopeless Zach Snyder vision. I did see Shazam! and thoroughly enjoyed it, always aware that it wouldn't see Captain Marvel box office numbers. But you know what? Despite the box office disparity, the ratings for Shazam! are stellar (90%) when compared to the ratings for Captain Marvel (78%). And Captain Marvel is the only MCU movie that has a rotten audience score on RT. Just saying. Well I just let go a huge sigh of relief. THANK GOD THERE ISN'T MUCH CAPTAIN MARVEL IN THIS MOVIE! I've been so worried that the MCU was going to go all "Mary Sue" in this last, epic conclusion and completely wreck 10 wonderful years of classic comics storytelling. What they do from here on out with Brie Larson's silly character is up to Disney/Marvel but at least she won't ruin Avengers: Endgame. Another source just confirmed that she is limited to about 15 minutes in a 3 hour movie. And from what I've heard, she isn't the one who takes out Thanos. THANK GOD! I can't understand why. It's an entertaining movie and Cumberbach nails the role as Stephen Strange. From the buzz surrounding the last MCU movie, most say that Doctor Strange is far better than Captain Marvel. I haven't seen Captain Marvel but I've seen Doctor Strange at least 3 times and enjoyed it greatly. It's not a top tier MCU movie but I'd place it firmly in the upper middle of the those movies. It's far better than the first or second Thor, Iron Man 2 and 3, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers 2. I guess at the end of the day, it all depends what you want from an MCU origin story movie. ?????????????? So in your view, a good comic book movie is where Doctor Strange and Dormamu "talk out" their differences, share a campfire song and then Dormamu consumes the world, along with humanity. Yeah... that'll put people in the theater seats.
